We have just received our marching orders to report for service! Now is the time to start the serious anxiety!
The schedule is to arrive in Washington DC in time for registration at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 28th. Orientation lasts until 7:00 pm that day; we check out of the hotel by 11:30 am on Friday, May 29th, board the bus for Dulles Airport around noon, and depart for Lilongwe, Malawi at 5:40 pm on Friday, May 29th. Arrival into Lilongwe is planned for Sunday, May 31st, at 2:05 pm (8:05 am EST).
As we started and finished a new chapter in our lives as Peace Corps volunteers, we shared our experiences during our assigned country of Malawi. While trying to restart our lives in the US post-Malawi, Kaye continued an interest at university level teaching, and Noel accepted a placement as a logistician with Doctors Without Borders in India. Our journeys continue! And now, we have accepted a new assignment in Uganda with Global Health Initiatives/US Peace Corps. Peace.

- Noel & Kaye pursued an interest and joined the Peace Corps for service in the southeast African country of Malawi. Join us as we continue to relay our stories, joys, experiences, frustrations and pleasures on this blog. Malawi is one of Africa’s most densely populated countries with a population of about 12 million in a land area roughly the size of Indiana. English is one of the official languages, though it is not commonly used outside major urban centers. More than 50 percent of the people speak Chichewa, the other official language, and almost everyone understands it. Malawi is predominantly a Christian country, but it also has a sizeable Islamic population, mostly located along the southern lake shores. And now, we continue our African experiences by jointly enlisting to support the needs of the Ugandan people through the combined collaboration of the US Peace Corps and Global Health Initiatives for a twelve month assignment in Mbarara, Uganda.
